FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VOICE-OVERS

Q1: I have a good voice. Why do I need training?
A1: Simply having a “good” voice isn’t enough to succeed in voice-overs. Voice-over performers must call upon many different tools and techniques, skills which can only be taught by certified voice-over coaches who know how the industry works and how to give it what it wants. Training not only allows you to develop effective ways of reading and handling copy, but also helps develop your ear so that you can honestly judge your abilities. Training also allows you to network with some the most important people in the field: the people who can get you work!
Q2: How much training will I need?
A2: That all depends on you. Voice-overs, while a very lucrative field, is also highly competitive. The voice-over performers who book jobs are the ones who practice daily and are persistent in their own personal marketing efforts. It is recommended that you at least graduate from a comprehensive program that teaches you the ins and outs of voice-overs, technique and the business alike. But remember, as with any performing art (acting, music, etc.,) or sport, you must keep your instrument well tuned. Therefore, it is advisable that you attend classes or work with a coach on a regular basis.
Q3: Do I need an agent?
A3: Yes, No and Maybe. It all depends on the stage of your career. There are a number of different ways to go after voice-over work and using an agent is only one method. We teach a variety of marketing methods so that you can find which one works best for you.
Q4: Will you be my agent?
A4: We are a training program for voice-over artists not talent agents. However, we refer our qualified students and graduates to producers, casting directors and talent agents when casting calls come in. We are happy to offer this referral service free to our students and graduates. We also offer classes where you can meet industry professionals. Also, we publish the National Voice-Over Marketing Guide which is a comprehensive listing of places to look for work.
